A State of Emergency, A State of Address

With Broken Boards right around the corner, we're a bit behind on a couple of things around here.

But this is going to change.
Tuesday September 24th 2013 we move full time over to the "new" webserver, leaving our beloved blogger site behind, all previous articles will still be available, though they're being imported to the new site, but just in case it's nice to have a backup.
you may have already noticed that the onthewall-zine.com domain isn't even pointing here anymore, this is part of the plan, don't fret.

So the New Issue will be hitting the streets, you'll be able to grab a copy at yr fav local skate shop, pub, and possibly even record store if yr in the Edmonton area, we're even gonna make sure there are copies floating down in Red Deer, and were working on a space or two in Calgary to carry the zine as well.

And we'll have a brand new website, that is looking pretty gnar (in the closed beta, at least.) To make this all happen we've had to make some sacrifices, such as dropping the plans of also being a Distro. 

Sad news for all, but, we'll still have the mail order set up through bandcamp, and we're going to be partnering with a buddy who is in the works of re-launching his old zine & record distro. 

So basically, keep yr eyes open and ears to the hubba, there be frontside grinds in the future.

Broken Boards - Distro & Pre-Order Info

Great news everyone!
We've gotten all the bugs worked out of the shipping & tax part of the distro site, so everything is now good to go.
Mind, while that was all happening, we managed to sell out of all the compilations, and print editions of Issue 1…
That’s okay though, as Issue 1.5 is due out in late September, and we'll be taking pre-orders for it once the 10th rolls around. It will be retailing for $1.50 an issue, and distro priced at $1.00/ea.

We'll be packing them into bundles of 10 for shops, and the initial run will be of 300 issues.
We've spoken with quite a few places in Edmonton who will be carrying them right off the bat, and are more than willing to ship them to whatever location you happen to be at.

I shouldn't even have to mention Jesse Leboudais, honestly I shouldn't. Your ears are going to fall in love. I'd bet a pint of Yellowhead beer on it. (I won't though, as I'm a poor musician, and skate rat.)

Heroin Hayride out of Montreal is possibly one of the best bands playing in PQ at the moment, so to have them wander out west and play in our little hell hole of a city is going to be rad.

Kroovy Rookers, I don't even NEED to tell you why the Kroovy Rookers are awesome. If you've never seen them, then you must not be paying attention, because they are seriously one of Edmonton's best Punk/Oi-ish bands around. Rod, Mike, And Tom are Rad guys who play RAD music.

The Cleaners, you may have missed them a back mid july when they kicked things off for Rebuild/Repairs EP release show.. I didn't, and I wrote a huge spiel about them in my notebook.. I haven't had a chance to type it up yet... but if you don't see them, you're going to be wondering why craig is buying a new door, and patching up the roof, just saying.

Helmets & Pads

Jim Nowhere - Millwoods, 2011

I know we all hate them, but seriously if Bucky Lasek can rock them out why the hell can't we?

I've even been known to break out a full set of pads from time to time. Though usually after i'm already injured, as opposed to wearing them from the start to prevent said injury. So yeah.. check out the new Vid/Advert from Pro-Tec, they just want you to keep on skating everyday, who cares what you look like, I've seen your closet, I'm pretty sure you don't, so just toss on some pads and a helmet and I'll see you in the bowl.

Since Day One

As many of you are aware, Jim Thiebaud is a bit of a role model of mine, maybe some would say a little bit of a hero.  From following his passions, and just doing everything in his power, he helped to build a bit of a modern day utopia of skater owned and operated companies. Back in 1992 him and TG started up Real Skateboards under the Deluxe Distribution banner (who at that point was just Spitfire and Thunder Trucks, if my memory serves..)

The first time I saw a Jim skate was back in 1989 on a VHS tape, from the folks over at Santa Cruz, and the kids at Strange Notes just tossed that clip up online today, so I thought I'd share it with you, so you can see why this dude has inspired me so over the past two decades.
